Song "Addicted to Oil" by my friends at the Capitol Steps. You can hear/purchase their parodies at http://www.capsteps.com/
Go there to listen and download the song "Addicted to Oil" that we played this morning.

Some of the stories I'll be referring too today on the show beginning at 9:05am ET/8:05CT.

This isn't a surprise. Obama's supporters are more excited about their candidate that McCain's supporters are about him.

Uh oh, Tennessee has more "fat" people than all but two states. Hope that doesn' t put a damper into Steve's Friday shows on location at various eating places!

Young Tennesseans aren't following in the footsteps of Davy Crockett these days. Apparently, the culture is changing and the youth isn't patient enough to enjoy the outdoor activities of hunting and fishing. Well, I guess you might as well be from New Jersey then!

Rep. Nancy Pelosi opposes drilling for oil offshore but it appears the democratic leadership may allow a vote after all on the issue. Dems are getting heavy pressure from the public, who gets it, during an election year. The President turned up the pressure this week when he lifted the federal moratorium on drilling.

Now, you have to read the "vision" put forth by democrats on what to do about energy. We know the nonsense about more windmills. Read this list:

I know I must have mis-read this. The U.S. State Department is issuing calendars "just in time for Ramadan?"

I can see what is happening. When Obama's campaign loses in November, we are going to be told, by Democrats and the Media, what a bunch of racists we are in the country. Never mind the guy should be running for city council and not the Presidency.

I agree that Americans are whiners, but to say Bill Clinton was handed everything is silly. He came from a very modest background, just like Truman and Nixon, and worked hard for everything he got. His brains got him to the Presidency, not his family prestige. If you want to talk about silver spoon babies, look no further than Bush II. He was a failure at essentially everything, but never had to fail because daddy and his friends were always there to bail him out. And unlike Clinton, Bush got into Yale and Harvard due to affirmative action (his daddy went there!)[ Post Reply ]

Hey, Doug,Sen. Gramm was right. And most of your points were well taken. On the humorous side, I also made the unintended reference while trying to track a package that, like a previous package, had only made it as far as a certain processing hub before disappearing. My conversation with the customer service representative was along the lines of "Good grief! That center is a virtual black hole."It wasn't till after hanging up that I realized my reference was to the center within a city with one of the densest black populations in America. Oops! No offense intended but I'm sure the service rep' didn't see my intended meaning.Hi, demiangod,Your point about Clinton was well-taken but I will add another. Mr. Clinton learned quickly how to parlay power through duplicity and adding shady characters to his power base. Intelligence alone would have not been enough. Such is the case with most politicians. Mr. Clinton was the white equivalent of Obama, except in a time where the stakes were not as high.[ Post Reply ]

Saturday Night Special on WBT/Charlotte 9pm ET

Welcome to a new weekly program on WBT/Charlotte called "Saturday Night Special." I'll be hosting once or twice a month as we continue to focus on the up coming Presidential election and the tightness of the race in North Carolina which is considered a battleground state. The Charlotte Observer has a story today about the show we are replacing here on WBT.
http://www.charlotte.com/326/v-print/story/709028.html

We'll be talking at 9:35pm ET with Dr. Sean Foreman of Barry University. He'll give us his thoughts about the Presidential race as we explore a Newsweek poll out tonight. The Poll has the race tight with Obama only a 3 point lead nationwide.
http://www.newsweek.com/id/145737

The race here in Carolina is as close as it can get. Which is why some political analysts I've talked with believe North Carolina is a possible Obama grab. I don't think so but the latest poll shows it is very close.

At 10:05pm ET, I'll be talking with Jim Kouri. He is the fifth vice-president of the National Association of Chief's of Police. He has a distinguished law enforcement background including his role on a panel for Homeland Security. He is a frequent author and commentator on issues involving our national security. Among the items, we'll discuss tonight is the increasing concern about Iran and what that may mean to the U.S. You can read Jim's columns at his web site:
http://www.jimkouri.us/

Meanwhile, according to a story tonight, President Bush has signed off on an Israeli strike plan against Iran nuke sites.
(Sunday Times of London)
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article4322508.ece

We'll further look at the discussion with Lee Boyland who has been on with me numerous times around the country recently and here on WBT. Lee is a nuclear weapons expert from his days in the U.S. military. He is an author and speaker regarding terrorism. He has been predicting the coming concern about Iran for more than the last two years. He'll join us at 10:35pm ET tonight. You can read Lee's writings at http://www.leeboylandbooks.com/

New York Times reporting this Saturday night that President Bush is considering stepping up the troop withdrawal from Iraq.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/13/washington/13military.html?_r=1&hp=&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin

These are some of the issues we'll be discussing from 9:05-12mid ET tonight at http://www.wbt.com/

WOAI/San Antonio tonight at 6:05pm ET

I'm filling in for Joe Pags again on WOAI/San Antonio tonight at www.WOAI.com
Thought you might enjoy this photo from our days living in SA while my Dad was in the Air Force. As you can see, it has been a few years since we lived there. Your host is the kid with the red hat in the photo to the left. Of course, I got my picture at the Alamo.

ABC News is reporting today that Obama's Iraq withdrawal plan is "very dangerous" according to U.S. Military commanders on the ground. We know this but it is nice for the military to just spell it out to the American people.
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2008/Story?id=5351864&page=1

My good friend Jim Kouri of the National Association of Chief's of Police has a new article this morning detailing how homeland security experts see another major terrorist attack within the next four years:
http://www.jimkouri.us/

Former Texas U.S. Senator Phil Gramm grabbed some headlines yesterday when he said that the nation is suffering from a "mental recession." He also called the nation full of whiney people. While the media decended on his comment and criticized John McCain because Gramm is his economic advisor, the fact is Gramm is right. Our leadership has lead many in America to think the government is solver of all problems. It isn't rugged individualism any more, it is what can the government do for me? I think this began in the 60s with the self-absorbed hippies and counter-culture types. They grew up and became head of our colleges and educational facilities. They are in control of most of the media and they even ran and won the Presidency in 1992. Bill Clinton was the poster child of the whiney baby boomer generation who had every thing handed to them on a silver platter following World War 2. They are still self absorbed and that led to the vast array of government entitlements we have to deal with today that bust the budget.

I saw two stories the last couple of days that I think validates this idea of a "whiney generation." One is from a Dallas, TX TV station where a black county commissioner objected to a white commissioner's use of the term "black hole." The commission was suggested that spending practices was throwing money down a "black hole." A familiar expression referring to the black hole told us by science in the universe that eliminates everything in it's path. The black commissioner consider it a racist slur. Totally ridiculous but another example of how people are looking to become offended.

Another story is the Atlanta Journal-Constitution this morning about how women are objecting to road worker signs that say "Men at Work." I like what one person wrote on the http://www.ajc.com/
web site: "Caution workers ahead..they might be men or women...could be gay or black..or even illegal alien. They might not be working..they could be just standing there doing nothing..."

Just played the song "Addicted to Oil" by the Capitol Steps. You can download it and other great parodies of theirs at www.CAPSTEPS.com

Frank Gaffney Jr. will join us at 7:05p ET. He is former Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy under President Reagan. Currently, he is founder and President of the Center for Security Policy in Washington. He is also hosting a humorous site regarding the current gas/oil situation. Chris Matthews of MSNBC Tuesday night was touting this story from the Iraqi government stating that a timetable is wanted for U.S. troop removal. This is an important issue because republicans say we can't leave until the violence is resolved and democrats want to just cut-and-run which is a timetable. No matter what the Iraqi government says, we cannot allow the terrorists to regain a footing there. However, Obama and the liberal media will run with this story.

A good friend of mine who hosts a statewide show in Tennessee has written his take on Rush's new $400 million contract. The liberals are going crazy about it and whether Rush is actually worth it. Does conservatism pay and liberalism on radio not pay? That is a fair question that Steve Gill answers this morning.

Tonight at 7:35pm ET on http://www.woai.com/ , I'll be talking with nuclear weapons expert Lee Boyland regarding the Iranian nuke situation. Lee has predicted for a while that the U.S. might take action against Iran before the end of the Bush adminstration. A number of stories posted above show a growing concern as Iran continues the program. You can read more of Lee's writings including his two books based on his military experience.

Meanwhile, I'm still getting mentions at a blog from Columbus, GA even though I've been gone there since 2001. I guess in 16 years on the radio there (1985-2001) there were a few "enemies" made. Especially at the Columbus Leftist-Enquirer. I guess I did used to call Kaffie Sledge "Kaffie Sludge." Oh well, another of the dinosaurs is retiring and of course, I give them my best. I tried hard to get may of them,. Billy Wynn-BAG, (very) Dusty Nix, Mike (can't remember his name so he must not have been important) to retire earlier. You can read here the comments from the "official" Columbus, GA blogger:

BLOG EXCLUSIVE: Your blog has been told one of the best-known names at the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer will leave the newspaper's staff this week. Kaffie Sledge's last day apparently will be Friday -- so please, can we all get along at Thunder on the Hooch?
Perhaps without even trying, Kaffie Sledge has become one of the most divisive people in Columbus. Some people agree with her columns in the Ledger-Enquirer. Other people can't stand them, and by extension can't stand her. I'm not sure anyone has arranged peace talks between Sledge and Doug Kellett yet.
Yet also perhaps without trying, Kaffie Sledge has become one of the most public voices for the African-American community in Columbus. Even though the Columbus Times is free, that doesn't mean a lot of Euro-American people drive south of Airport Thruway to pick one up.
Kaffie Sledge also has upset some people by taking liberal views on issues. A good number of Ledger-Enquirer readers want everyone on the paper to be just like them - and they somehow think Tim Chitwood and Brad Barnes actually are.
